Failure of the “Grain Deal”: the US and Ukraine Will Consider Other Options for Food Exports

The US and Ukraine are considering other options for food exports, instead of the “grain deal” that the Russian Federation thwarted.

This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to CNN.

He said that the withdrawal of the Russian Federation from the “grain agreement” is “shameless”, and also expressed the hope that all countries are watching how Russia irresponsibly treats countries in need of food.

Currently, the US and Ukraine are considering other options for exporting products through the Black Sea, for example, by rail or by road, but there are certain nuances.

“Even if other options are found, this will still have a deterrent effect on the ability to continue exports, because countries and shippers will be worried about what will happen to their personnel and ships if the Russian Federation interferes with the export of grain from Ukraine,” Blinken said.

“Grain Deal”

After the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine on a full scale, the invaders began to block the ports of our country, making it impossible to export grain and other products. Because of this, subsequently Turkey and the UN signed separate agreements with the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the supply of Ukrainian food to countries most in need of it.

For the entire period of the “grain deal” the Russian Federation has repeatedly threatened to disrupt it and still continued to block the ports. And after yesterday’s explosion on the Crimean bridge, the Russian Federation announced that the agreements on the “grain deal” were actually terminated .

After the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky said that he was ready to continue exporting grain unilaterally, after which he discussed the situation with UN Secretary General António Guterres.
