Series of High-Profile Burglaries in Belize Lead to Multiple Charges
In a significant turn of events, four individuals from Hattieville and Belmopan, Belize, have been charged in relation to a string of burglaries that have plagued Western Paradise, Hattieville, and the Insurance Corporation of Belize (ICB) office in Ladyville. Tyreke Garnett, 23, and his common-law wife Camaree Williams, 30, along with Elward McKay, 34, and Shanda Blades, both hailing from Belmopan, are the individuals implicated in this criminal spree.
Charges and Court Proceedings
The quartet faced the Belize City courts, answering to multiple charges. Initially, they were accused of handling a stolen black JVC television and remote. McKay, who attempted to plead guilty to the charges, was served a monetary penalty of $1,000, in addition to costs. He has been granted until February 29, 2024, to pay the fine or face a six-month imprisonment sentence.
Williams and Garnett were also implicated in the theft of a gold watch. However, Garnett’s legal troubles didn’t end there. He faced additional charges for burglaries committed at the ICB office and a private residence, which led to his remand without bail.
Additional Charges and Bail
Blades was slapped with charges of handling various stolen items, including jewelry and wines. Despite the gravity of the charges, both Williams and Blades were granted bail, with instructions to return to court for further proceedings on February 15, 2024.
Unraveling the Tapestry of Crimes
The charges brought against these individuals shine a light on the wave of burglaries terrorizing the regions of Western Paradise, Hattieville, and Ladyville in Belize. The high-profile nature of the burglaries, particularly those at the ICB office, underscore the audacity of the perpetrators, as they targeted not just private residences, but also corporate entities. The ongoing court proceedings will hopefully bring closure to the victims and serve as a deterrent to potential criminals.
